“Necessity is the Mother of Invention" is an English-language proverb. Although the author of this proverb is unknown, this saying appears in the dialogue Republic, by the ancient Greek Philosopher Plato. A need or problem encourages creative efforts to meet the need or solve the problem. Likewise as we all know since from the month of March whole world is under the situation of stress, panic etc. due to outbreak of coronavirus. Presently the situation has not remained as it used to be before, due to which it has impacted drastically every sector of our country may it be business, financial sector, hotels, etc. also including our “educational sector” as well. We can definitely say now that technology is being used appropriately in this lock down where students and teaching faculty are using virtual platform. Due to which need of safety and studies is fulfilled. Therefore technology has proved to be an ideal source for imparting academic studies.
Initially, various problems were faced by all teachers and students as they were not familiar to operate the electronic gadgets. But keeping all problems aside we have adapted to the new version of teaching and studying. As a result students as well as teachers have got used to this system very well and also in a short period of span. Attending online classes everyday has become the ‘new timetable’ for students during the lock down in India. The benefits of online studies are learning at the comfort of home as students and teachers do not need to rush to school or college daily. They can study and learn at the cozy ambience of their home and submit their assignments online. In online classes, there is less physical activity and more mental activity which saves their energy and makes students more academic oriented. Students have become more tech-savvy as they have got positive effect of online education which has made them come close to studies through technology. They have learnt more about various apps and programs. Apart from academic learning, there is much of technological learning happening in students during lock down. Their knowledge about computers, smart phone, laptop, tab and smart TV has enhanced. Relevant information at same platform can be obtained in online classroom system. Students have access to all relevant information at one point. Teachers can easily share all useful information on the online platform and keep it securely preserved in an electronic archive. This makes the process of interaction between the teachers and students very easy. It also ensures that if students need further explanations, they can easily refer these records and resolve their doubts instantly.
For this type of online learning one needs an electronic gadgets like mobile, laptop and a stable internet connection like WI-FI or Internet Data. In this online learning process our parents have also played an important role by providing above mentioned essentials. Online learning is done by using various applications namely Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Lens, Skype etc. Our teachers have made this online learning process easy and interesting by making attractive and informative powerpoint presentations, conducting online tests, creating assignments for students. Assignments of students has to be submitted through online platforms such as Google Classroom, Google Forms etc.
On this note, I would like to conclude by thanking all our Professors who have adapted this concept of online learning easily. Their work is genuinely commendable, as they have succeeded in order to gain the students interest in studies by making online learning communicative , interesting and enjoyable. This pandemic has proved to be a constructive disruptor , giving an opportunity for restructuring the present conventional classroom based educational system. The quick transitions to online mode assisted in keeping continuity of practice of education programs, fits perfectly in the purpose of completion of the current academic year. Thus online learning culture has proved to be a boon in disguise to one and all worldwide.
